Buyer

Position Summary:

• Responsible for order planning, buying, and expediting of goods and services required for production, sales, facilities, and administrative support.
• Receives suggested order requirements through MRP order processing, advance notifications, requestors, and forecast planning. Communicates orders and schedules needs with applicable suppliers.
• Requisitions documents for order entry process. Accuracy is critical regarding all aspects of the document formatting.
• Proofs newly created or revised order documents prior to signature of contract acceptance, taking corrective actions when applicable.
• Reviews work order and production lists to identify and address specialty materials with emphasis on lead times in consideration of production scheduling and inventory management.
• Expedites material requirements against manufacturing schedule.
• Maintains management status reports for material planning.
• Coordinates material quotations and cost maintenance.
• Monitors and reports on vendor/product performance on an ongoing basis.
• Reports cost and vendor performance on focus product/vendor assignments.
• Researches and evaluates vendor/product alternatives on an ongoing basis.
• Represents the Purchasing Department through participation in committee and (intra/inter) departmental meetings and activities.
• Evaluates business matters for compliance with departmental and company policy.
• Monitors purchase involvement of employees outside the Purchasing Department.
• Follows company policies and procedures at all times.
• Follows proper safety rules and procedures at all times.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and activities concurrently.
• Ability to perform high volumes of varied activities on a regular basis.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, in a business environment and deal with a diverse public.
• Must be able to analyze cost data for products/services and develop management recommendations as to the financial and operations benefits/consequences.
• Must be self-motivated and maintain high level of personal initiative.
• Must work as a team member, maintaining a positive attitude toward planning changes and management philosophy and deviations from the standard norm.
• Must present oneself in appearance, attire, attitude, and presence indicative of the job environment.
• Understanding of mechanical, electronic, and electrical products required.
• Typing skills required.
• Proficiency with word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications required.
• Working knowledge of electronic data exchange required.
• Ability to work with multiple, critical, and varied deadlines in a high stress situation required.
• Must subscribe to a high level of ethical standards.
• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent certificate required.
• College degree preferred.
• Work/military experience may be weighted considerations.
• Material management experience with a focus on procurement desirable.
