About Us:

At Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD), you have the opportunity to try new things and make a bigger difference across a broader end-to-end solution, a richer technology and product set, an expanded range of disciplines, a growing global footprint and a more diverse team of colleagues and customers.

Job Summary:

Do you have conceptual familiarity and/or experience with any one of the following isolated converter topologies: flyback, half-bridge, full-bridge, forward, push-pull, resonant?

Raytheon's Effector Power Team is looking for mid-level engineers who have power electronics knowledge to help design robust power systems.

The Effector Power Department is responsible for the development, from concept to integration, of Telemetry and Flight Termination products; power systems from all up round to the lowest level power regulation; servo electronics supporting all mechanical motion in our products and low noise mixed signal electronics that provides the analog to digital interface to our front end sensors. Each of these products generally operate in lower power and voltage ranges less than 10kW and 1000V.

We value diverse skills and experience, so dont hold back. Your qualification could add tremendous value to our team. Our customers come from all different backgrounds, and so do our employees. If youre passionate about what you could accomplish here, wed love to hear from you.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Design, analyze, simulate, test, and document power conversion (and related analog) circuitry. This circuitry will dominantly involve non-isolated and isolated switch mode power converters and linear converters. Main emphasis is on board-mounted power end use applications. Architect at the circuit card level.

  • Architect at the circuit card level.

  • See circuit card development through its design phases, from requirements definition through initial integration testing.

  • Drive to meet schedule concerns. Define schedules for circuit and circuit card level tasking.

  • Guide ECAD drafters through layout and routing activities, with minimal support from senior engineers. Define layer stackup definitions. Be aware of creepage and clearance concerns.

  • Lead small teams to success with schedule, budget, and technical execution.

  • Engage in personal technical growth, and encourage technical growth in peers and junior engineers.

  • Clearly present work product of your team to functional and program leadership. Participate in risk management discussions. Begin to guide junior engineers on technical presentation skills.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced STEM degree and 3 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Design, analysis, test, and simulation experience with linear converters, and one or more of the following non-isolated converter topologies: buck, boost, buck-boost.

  • Experience using tools such as MATLAB, MathCAD, Mathematica, or other similar tools. Must have experience developing templates with these tools.

  • Analog electronics design, including at least three of the following: FETs/BJTs, op-amp, high/low/band pass filters, clock/data termination, and comparator circuits.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Conceptual familiarity and/or experience with any one of the following isolated converter topologies: flyback, half-bridge, full-bridge, forward, push-pull, resonant. Conceptual familiarity and experience should include stability.

  • Understanding of switching converter control techniques and modes such as voltage mode, peak and average current modes, their advantages and disadvantages.

  • Experience conducting trade studies relating to power electronics architecture at the circuit card level.

  • Experience guiding drafters through the ECAD process, including the layout and routing concerns specific to non-isolated converters. Should have a conceptual understanding of the layout and routing concerns specific to isolated converters.

  • Experience communicating and documenting technical topics at the small and large team level, and experience presenting to lower levels of management.

  • Conceptual familiarity with EMI Filter design and analysis considerations in power electronics circuits.

  • Experience leading small teams (formally or informally).

  • Experience designing at the circuit card level to meet concerns of adjacent disciplines, such as thermal, structural, mechanical, reliability, and quality.

  • Utilizing and creating electrical design specifications.

  • Exposure to professional transformer and inductor design, analysis, test, and simulation considerations in power electronics circuits. Should have a conceptual understanding of core material properties and their selection
